Just a small game I'm working on (not AM)

Started a Small ROTN game with Melt and Drake. Melt is the main character you play.
You start off in the ship that Melt & Drake have sign up to work on but Melt has lost Drake after talking to the Main Boss of the Spaceship. ( I haven't got that part done so you start in the ship outside hius room) so you need to find Drake and then the Chief to find out what you are to do.
There is four rooms to go into on the ship and off. will be more when it is done , hope to have at least 10 to 12 with this game.
Not sure how the time line works with this as the Ron site is down so have to wait to check.
You may find some spelling wrong so let me know what it was and the right spelling and I can fix it. I'm not a great speller.
The game is in 320x200 so screenshots are small.

Unfortunately I can't run it 320x200 because that gives me an error message so I had to switch to fullscreen (makes graphic display worse...). So far funny story though I haven't finished yet :)
What I observed at the dialogues is that the last question I asked is usually still displayed on the top and only disappears after I have asked the next question (which also stayes there afterwards until I ask the next question). Is this intended? Should the last question not disappear?

You can do it the way you would like to.

It just stumped me a bit because I thought:
- Either the question disappears right after having asked it
- Or all questions stay there to have the possbility to ask them again.

And your solution right now is a mix between them, that means the question disappears not immediately but after the next question.

It's just that I'm not used to this "method" but it's only my personal impression. Could be that other players appreciate your solution. I can only talk for myself.

Maybe you better wait for feedback from other people before you change it just because I personally find it strange :wink:

Thats the nice thing about scripting the Dialog I can do it how I want it.
How far are you in the game? see the fish pond yet? :o

Have to get back to it Candle, right now I had some urgent forum moderator job to do and it had priority (you surely understand :wink: )

I think that I will play it now through and collect my impressions so that I can post a kind of "review" (collection of feedback on different topics) in one single post a bit later if you don't mind.

Can you tell me what that pink thing in my inventory is? Is it the key for the spaceship? Or something else? :?

And should it be possible to get access to the rooms on the ship (I used the transporter and now I flew back with the spaceship). So I have seen three locations, does your demo go further?If so, then I'm stuck... :wink:

to the far right ot the planet screen to can walk to the next room / screen .
You would of found the pond and used the fishing pole there to get a fish.
fishing pole is in a hut and there is a sizzors in the one other hut.
on my laptop so can't type real good right now.
i think the pink thing is the spaceship key or bug maybe can't look right now as my computer is busy.

Well my problem is that as I got the key for the spaceship on the planet, I was automatically flown back to the first screen on the spaceship and now every door is closed (even the one that I used before to go to the transporter). It seems that I can't go further now in the game.

I'll restart.

I seem not be able to proceed in the game, but maybe I'm missing something. I caught the fish, but when I wanted to give it to the guy on the right, the left guy is moving and answers me that he doesn't eat fish (is this intended? or should I be able to give the fish to the right guy?).
I can only use the rock and then they are dead and I get the key for the spaceship and I'm flying automatically back to the first screen where I can't do anything. So I get stuck in the game.
Maybe you could tell me if I am missing something or if there is a bug in the game (I'm not sure).
(It is funny though that when the guys are dead, they stand up for talking with me and die again, lol)

General feedbacks so far:
Hot spots on doors in first screen (in spaceship) a bit too small.
Not always clear what I had in my inventory (e.g. pink thing = key, diamond looking thing ???) and the black fishing rod on the black background was very hard to see (maybe change color of it).
Hot spot on door to get to the transporter reacts only after clicking a lot of times… I kept clicking at the same place but had to click up to 10-12 times to go into the transporter room.


Dialogues - general:
Fullstop after questionmark in many questions. Should be checked and deleted.

Dialogues - specific:
"All locked up tight it looks like" (sounds a bit strange to me)
Start screen talking to robot with 4 eyes: answer to first question „Yes me and Drake want ask him What to do…“ (low-case w instead)

I have been here too long… (instead of "to")

Have you seem him? (seen)

After transporter, being outside:
Dialogue:
What do you eat?
I like all kinds of things (without apostrophe)
After bye:
Lots (2 times without apostroph)

Object on the floor:
Too big to pick up (instead of "to")

These were my feedbacks for a correction. But I want to give my general impression on the story (as far as I could get with it). As I said before, it is a funny story and the dialogues are also pretty funny. :D I like your story and I'm curious to see what might be in the other rooms.

Ok thats about as far you can go now .
Things you can do in the game:
Catch fish with fishing pole.
Talk to alien in first long room that is walking.
Talk to alien with only two legs.
go in to roon and transport to planet 1 .
on planet :
get fishing pole
Talk to alien in room and look close at bed.
Get something out of number 2 hut. hint look in jar.
use scissors on bug on outside of hut
Offer fish to aliens.
Offer ? to aliens.
get Diamond from alien for something.
Use scissors on something to get something.
pick up rock and use got back to big ship.
Thats all in the demo now. till I finsh the game . maybe will do it in parts?
Thanks for the spelling tips I will fix that when I get to work on it again when my computer is done copying a dvd . ( 10 hours ? ) grrrrr

In that case I only missed the second thing with the scissors, I have done all other steps.
So then I know that I can't go further now when I return to the ship. Good to know that (I was not sure).

Good luck for the continuation of the game and post if you have new parts :)

I will and thank you for testing it for me . I still have to add when you look at something in the inv it will tell you what it is so you know and not have to guess.
click the eye glasll then look at the thing it will say what it is.

That's a good idea to add this. I tried but it didn't work so I really had to guess.
And I don't know if you want to change the part where the guys are dead: Should they stand up and speak with me and then lie down and be dead again? Well, it's not logic but funny. :wink:

I will have to fix that if you did.
once they do the rocks they are dead and you can get the spaceship key and leave.
the one in the hut is not the same aliens.

Yes, I could talk to them (the dead guys):
- the normal dialogue
plus
- dialogue when giving the fish (if I drag the fish on the dead guys)

In both cases they stand up, talk (like before when they were alive) and then lie down and are dead again. Seems you have to disable hotspots after they are dead.
That's why I told you because I thought that this probably wasn't your intention.

Right, just looked at your updated version.
Ha, nice to be mentioned in the credits :) But as I'm not a native English speaker, maybe you should let check the spelling also by somebody else at the end. I just tell you the mistakes that I discover.

You didn't have the time to make the spelling corrections as I see. At least I haven't seen any corrections so far.

Here some new remarks on the added features:
- Now that you added text to the inventory, it is much better (though the fishing rod is still very hard to see as it is black).
- The guys vanish after they die, so this bug has been fixed.

I have observed the following problems/things to correct:

- On the planet the text is coming every time I step outside the huts or enter the screen. I think it would be better to display this text only once if it is possible to do.
- The sentence "I don't know about this place?" sounds strange. It is not really a question but a statement, so maybe you could write "I don't know this place." or "I don't know anything about this place."
- What stumped me is that when I picked up the key for the spaceship there was no text displayed, but when I dragged the key onto the spaceship to fly back, the message "I'll just take this key. Thank you." was displayed. I'll suggest that this message is displayed when I pick up the key. When I drag the key on the spaceship, there could be another message that fits better.
- Inventory:
A fishing pole instead of A Fishing pole (low-case f)
Looks like a nice fish (instead of Looks lie a nice fish)

I'm still curious to see new parts :)

Oh yes, this way it is much easier. I'll look at it but I can't give you any guaranty that I detect every mistake. I'll let you know about my suggestions after checking the text file.

Just a small question: Is the correct name Rino or Rimo (you have used both)?
EDIT: nevermind, I have just found out it's Rimo, forgot to look at the names at the beginning of every dialogue part, lol.

Yes, I know, I don't think I changed any codes, only the dialogue parts and the displayed text for the screens.
But of course I also wanted to suggest you to take a look at it before you change it, just to be sure.

Okay, I looked through the dialogues and displayed texts and I changed some expressions and corrected some typos.
